Sumner County Schools' 2016-17 Teachers of the Year 14

Jessica Burmeister,
Beech Elementary School

Jessica Burmeister has been teaching special education at Beech Elementary for 12 years. She has taught in a comprehensive development classroom, education resource center and is currently the resource teacher. Burmeister has been employed by Sumner County Schools for 18 years. She worked as an assistant with the district for six years before becoming a certified teacher.

Patty Daniels,
Beech High School

Patty Daniels teaches special education in a comprehensive development classroom for special needs students in grades 10-12 and transition students ages 18-22. She has been teaching in Sumner County schools for 16 ½ years, the past 13 ½ years at Beech High School. She has been working with children and adults with intellectual disabilities for 32 years.

Jamie Fleming, 
Gene Brown Elementary School

Jamie Fleming is now in her fourth year of teaching second grade at Gene Brown Elementary. She has spent her entire teaching career at GBE and hopes to continue for years to come.

Emily Thompson, 
Hawkins Middle School

Emily Thompson teaches seventh grade English language arts. She began her teaching career with Sumner County Schools in August 2010 at Hawkins and has been there ever since.

Jessica de Araujo Jorge, 
Hendersonville High School

Jessica de Araujo Jorge teaches Spanish I through Advanced Placement Spanish at Hendersonville High School. She has been a teacher in Sumner County at Hendersonville High for 12 years.

Tim Koly, 
Indian Lake Elementary School

Tim Koly was teacher of the year at Indian Lake Elementary. He teaches music to kindergarten through fifth grade and is currently in his fifth year of teaching in Sumner County. Koly is also a songwriter and founding member of Paper Street Music Company.

Kristen Goodfellow Cudd, 
Jack Anderson Elementary School

Kristen Goodfellow Cudd is now in her fifth year at Jack Anderson Elementary where she teaches second grade. She has been teaching for 10 years, including six years teaching fourth grade in South Carolina. Second grade is definitely her love!

Traci Overholser, 
Knox Doss Middle School at Drakes Creek

Traci Overholser teaches sixth-grade math at Knox Doss Middle School at Drakes Creek. She has been with the county and this position for the past 13 years.

Faustin Haskins, 
Lakeside Park Elementary School

Faustin Haskins has been teaching fifth grade at Lakeside Park Elementary for five years. She is a product of Sumner County Schools, having attended Lakeside Park herself! She loves teaching at the school she went to and knows how special a place it truly is.

Reed Clapp, 
Madison Creek Elementary School

Reed Clapp teaches third grade in a self-contained classroom. He has been teaching for eight years—two years in Kentucky and the past six in Sumner County.

Elizabeth Sizemore, 
Nannie Berry Elementary School

Elizabeth Sizemore started in her position as the school librarian at Nannie Berry in the 2013-14 school year. As a librarian, she feels her most important role is to foster a love for reading.

Laura Cason, 
Robert E. Ellis Middle School

Laura Cason is now in her third year teaching sixth grade social studies at Ellis Middle School. She has been teaching in Sumner County for six years.

Tracy Duncan, 
Merrol Hyde Magnet (Elementary School)

Tracy Duncan teaches second grade at Merrol Hyde Magnet School. This is her 17th year teaching in Sumner County and her 25th year in education.

Samantha Wilson, 
Merrol Hyde Magnet (High School)

Samantha Wilson teaches Spanish III Honors, Spanish IV Honors and Spanish V Advanced Placement. She is also the student council adviser. This is her 10th year teaching and her ninth year with Sumner County Schools.

Pam Anderson, 
Station Camp Elementary School

Pam Anderson has been with Sumner County approximately 15 years, teaching music at Beech Elementary School, HB Williams Elementary School and Madison Creek Elementary School. She is currently at Station Camp Elementary School where each grade level performs a musical. She also leads an honors choir, Station Camp Elementary Singing Bison Select Choir. Additionally, Anderson is a popular children’s Christian songwriter.

Robert Frech Sr., 
Station Camp High School

Robert Frech Sr. is Station Camp High School’s teacher of the year. He has been teaching U.S. government at SCHS for the past 15 years.

Megan Hester, 
Station Camp Middle School

Megan Hester is now in her 11th year at Station Camp Middle where she teaches choir. She is a member of the School Emergency Team, Related Arts Team leader, National Association of Music Education and Middle TN Vocal Association and was instrumental in starting the first Sumner County All-County Eighth Grade Choir. She is also the chairperson for the Middle TN Vocal Association’s Middle School Honors Choir.

Katie Baker, 
T.W. Hunter Middle School

Katie Baker is in her third year as a music teacher at TW Hunter Middle School and her 17th year teaching in Sumner County. She teaches sixth-grade chorus, seventh-grade chorus and eighth-grade chorus as well as seventh and eighth-grade general music. She has served as clinician, adjudicator and accompanist at honors choirs and festivals in the Middle Tennessee area and has directed the Hendersonville Community Singers and the Gallatin Children’s Choir.

Jonna Jenkins, 
Walton Ferry Elementary School

Jonna Jenkins is now in her fourth year as Walton Ferry Elementary School’s music teacher. She has taught for nine years in Sumner County, having taught general music and chorus at Portland East Middle School for six years. Additionally, she works part time as the music and choir director at CrossLife Community Church where she and her husband, David, are also pastors.
