Vol State Announces New President’s Ambassadors

Volunteer State Community College has announced its 2018-19 President’s Ambassadors. The Ambassadors represent the college at events, conduct campus tours and help with public relations. Students selected for the program go through a rigorous vetting process. Successful candidates are selected from more than 2,000 eligible students. Eligible students must have a cumulative 3.0 grade point average and have completed at least 12 college-level credit hours at Vol State. The scholarship covers full tuition and fees at the in-state rate, as well as a $300-per-semester book stipend.

Inaugural Tennessee Honey Festival Held at Hendersonville’s Memorial Park

The inaugural Tennessee Honey Festival was held at Memorial Park in Hendersonville on Sept. 8. The event drew thousands of bee and honey enthusiasts from across Tennessee and beyond.

The festival featured a wide range of apiary- and honey-themed activities, including bee presentations, musical artists, merchandise booths and crafts. Numerous food vendors provided a variety of refreshments, including some with honey.

“Our initial festival exploded onto the scene with passion and purpose,” J.K. Brister says. “We can’t wait until Tennessee Honey Festival 2019.”

Hendersonville Parks Dedicate New Mosaic Art Wall

The Hendersonville Parks Department dedicated a new mosaic art wall at Memorial Park on Sept. 13. Conceived by local artists Yvette Renée and Mark Cowden, the new exhibit features 24 mosaic panels affixed to 12 stone walls located between the park’s tennis courts and the Kids’ Kingdom playground.

The total project took almost one year to complete, and it was constructed by more than 500 local children and adults.

The dedication ceremony included remarks by city officials, arts supporters and the Cowdens before concluding with a ribbon-cutting ceremony.
