Vol State Fall Graduation
Students, family, and well-wishers filled the Pickel Field House on Dec. 14 to celebrate Volunteer State Community College fall commencement.
Dennis Powers, class of 1973, gave the Alumni Association welcome. He is the college’s Distinguished Alumnus of the Year.
Former Pittsburgh Steelers and University of Tennessee football punter, Craig Colquitt, was the commencement speaker. The two-time Super Bowl champion reminded the graduates that “the opportunities come from how you decide your own life.”
Frostbite 5K and 10K Races and Polar Plunge
On Saturday, Dec. 28, nearly 400 runners competed in the 17th annual Frostbite 5K and 10K races held at the Sumner County Family YMCA in Hendersonville. The Frostbite races make up the fourth and final leg of the Hendersonville Race Series, which also includes the Memorial Day Classic, the Hendersonville Half-Marathon and the Indian Lake Loop. Following the races, several people jumped into the cold 45° outdoor pool as part of the annual Polar Plunge.
TriStar Hendersonville Announces New Year’s Baby 2020
The Birth Center at TriStar Hendersonville welcomed the birth of baby Paisley to parents Kelsi Balliache and Jacob Brewer at 1:19 p.m. on Jan. 1.
“Welcoming babies into the world is one of the greatest joys of working in maternity services,” said Jan Alexander, director of women’s services. “There is an extra sense of excitement and promise that comes with the delivery of the first baby of the New Year. The TriStar Hendersonville team is overjoyed to be a part of this family’s special day.”
The annual Goodlettsville Yulefest celebration was held at Historic Manskers Station on Dec. 7. The event attracted hundreds of visitors from Middle Tennessee and Southern Kentucky who came to experience period Christmas decorations, music, carriage rides and refreshments.
A wide variety of activities were held in the Bowen House, Manskers Fort and the Visitors Center.
